Welcome to my story! I’m genetically diagnosed with Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis (HypoPP for short). I became symptomatic at the early age of 9. I had my first attack just days before my 10th birthday, believe it or not. My mother is afflicted with this condition as well. Thanks to her, I got a speedy diagnosis and a clear understanding of my triggers.
My hobbies are pretty much anything creative. Graphic design, voice acting, and writing. I was able to utilize my skill in all of those areas to create “Paralysis.” Back in high school English class, I was asked to write a poem about a certain event in my life. I had just recovered from a bad attack, so my initial thought was writing about the day I got diagnosed. Multiple years and revisions later, I now have a 6-minute short story published on YouTube, narrated by yours truly.
The purpose of sharing my story online is to raise awareness about HypoPP. By sharing my personal experience, I hope to demystify this often misunderstood condition, and provide an easy way for people to share it with others. It’s hard to get people to understand what the condition is like. Not only strangers, but close friends too. My audio aims to lift the veil by providing an immersive glimpse into what an attack is like, allowing a broader audience to grasp its impact. An audience that might not be receptive to lectures or explainer videos on the subject.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about me, and I hope you enjoy “Paralysis!”
